This is the second of 3 double CDs in the series Sounds of New Orleans. The series will present many of the famous New Orleans musicians in different combinations. You will hear Kid Ory, George Lewis, Alvin Alcorn Johnny Wiggs, George Girard, Percy Humphrey, Sharkey Bonano, Lee Collins, Oscar Papa Celestin, Paul Barbarin, Albert Burbank, Wilbur De Paris, Lizzie Miles and many more. Except for recordings with Kid Ory and George Lewis all sessions are recorded in New Orleans. It was Joe Mares who opened the Southland Studio in New Orleans and began to record the local musicians when he found out that there were so many talented musicians in New Orleans. Joe Mares’ enterprise is recorded proof that the best of Dixieland jazz still comes from New Orleans.

This is the second 2 CD set with authentic New Orleans music from Storyville. There are eight different groups on this CD. Kid Ory And His Creole Jazzband, Oscar Pappa Celestin Tuxedo Jazzband, George Lewis And His New Orleans Jazzband, Wilbur DeParis And His New Jazz Band, Paul Barbarin And His Band, Sharkey Bonano Live At The Perez Club, Albert Burbank with Kid Ory And His Creole Jazzband and Johnny Bayersdorffer Jam Session At Joe Mares Place. Kid Ory and George Lewis sessions are recorded at the Hangover Club in San Francisco all other sessions from New Orleans. All the known New Orleans tunes are here Dippermouth Blues, Mahogany Hall Stomp, Oh, Didn’t He Ramble, High Society, When the Saints Go Marching In, Muskrat Ramble, Clarinet Marmalade, High Society and many others.
